YOGA IMPROVES PHYSICAL HEALTH...
A report from the Kensington and Chelsea Foundation reveals concerning increases in inequality across the borough. Three of most deprived wards in London are in North Kensington. The report shows that poverty and deprivation have worsened for North Kensington residents with low or no income, leading to shorter life expectancies and longer waits for access to essential support services. OUR YOGA PROJECT HELPS TO REDUCE THE sense of isolation anD overall better sense of self
Loneliness and isolation in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have become growing concerns, with a significant impact on the well-being of residents. Many individuals, particularly those in vulnerable groups such as the elderly, low-income families, and those with mental health issues, experience feelings of isolation and a lack of social connection. This isolation can lead to a range of negative outcomes, including poorer physical and mental health, and in some cases, a reduced quality of life.
Addressing loneliness and social isolation highlights the value of community projects like WYKD. Befriending programs, and group activities (such as art sessions, discussions, and group exercise) have shown success in combating loneliness and reducing isolation.
“Since joining WYKD classes it’s the first time that I have felt part of a community in the 25 years that I’ve lived in London. It has encouraged me to participate in other community activities in the area and to get involved in more group activities which I would usually shy away from. In this way it’s added a huge amount of value to my life that goes way beyond the physical benefits.” WYKD Participant
